Your word for the day is EXTRAVAGANT!

My parents couldn’t afford an extravagant Christmas as all of our friends had. We were upset every year as we got simple and inexpensive gifts such as pencils, markers, or paper pads. My parents couldn’t afford to live in this town as the cheapest houses, for the most part, were well over several hundred thousand dollars, and numerous mansions went for millions. My parents felt lucky to find a run-down home to rent with the option to buy, which eventually they did, and every year we went through our friends showing off their extravagant gifts for Christmas and rubbing it in. Such nice friends we had. Kids can be mean.
