#JusJoJan prompt the 31st – “Candy”

#JusJoJan prompt the 31st – “Candy”

**********

I was rushing across the highway with my daughter in her stroller. The traffic was bad during the day so I was hurrying as fast as possible. Suddenly she threw something out of the stroller. It was a stuffed animal and I briefly slowed and scooped it up and continued running to get to the other side and safety.

When I got home I looked at the stuffed animal and realized it wasn’t ours. It had a price tag on it and I had never seen it before. I looked in the stroller to see what else she had helped herself to. Stolen is the the word, but she wasn’t even two years old and had no idea what she did was wrong. She wanted it, she took it.

I also found a candy bar in there. I was faced with a dilemma. Did I fight the traffic on the highway to run back to the store to return it or not. They obviously didn’t know it had been lifted by my quick fingered daughter since no one came after us and I was embarrassed not to mention having to fight the traffic again with her in the stroller tossing things out. I decided not to risk another trip across the highway.

The next time we were out in a store with her in the stroller I had to keep my eyes on her at all times. She did it again. She reached out and grabbed a pack of gum. “Oh no, little girl we aren’t doing this again,” I told her sternly. I made her take the gum and give it back to the lady at the register. I explained what she did to the woman and apologized, but my daughter fought me to keep that gum. She didn’t chew gum, but she just grabbed whatever she was near enough to. She didn’t understand what she did wrong at that point, but we had to start somewhere. And I had to pay closer attention to her and her quick, sneaky little fingers. She was our first kid and we had no idea what kids do. Daughter number two never got the chance to do it. We knew better after that.

Linda G Hill’s Rules:

Hey there! Welcome to the 8th annual Just Jot it January challenge! This year is going to be far simpler than the last couple of years. One prompt per day, link to that post, that’s it. Details below.

But why should you participate in this challenge? To keep the ol’ fingers warm and meet up with an awesome blogging community, that’s why! Just Jot it January, AKA JusJoJan, is a challenge to write a post every day of the month of January. We’ve grown from a handful of participants in 2014 to close to fifty for the past couple of years. Let’s see if we can make it to sixty this year!

Here are the JusJoJan Rules:

1. Just Jot It January starts January 1st, but it’s never too late to join in! Here, we run on the honour system; the “jot it” part of JusJoJan means that anything you jot down, anywhere (it doesn’t have to be a post, it can even be a grocery list), counts as a “jot.” If it makes it to your blog that day, great! If it waits a week to get from a sticky note to your screen, no problem!

2. I’ll post prompts at 2am my time (GMT -5). The prompt will be the word in quotation marks in the title of my 2am post. You don’t have to follow the prompt every day, but that will be where you leave your link for others to see. You’ll get a prompt for every day except Wednesday, when the prompt is simply my One-Liner Wednesday and on Saturday, when your prompt will be the Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS, which will appear at about 9:30am Friday. Each prompt post will include the rules.

3. Please ping back or link to the daily prompt. To ping back, just copy the URL from the daily prompt post, and paste it anywhere in your post. Check to make sure your link shows up where you want it to, and go back occasionally to see other bloggers’ entries – the more you visit others, the more they’ll visit you! Note: A) The newest pingbacks will be at the top of the comments section. B) Ping backs only work if you’re blogging on WordPress. Everyone else must paste a link manually.

4. Tag your post JusJoJan and/or #JusJoJan.

5. Write anything! Any length will do! It can even be a photo or a drawing – you’re going to title it, right? There’s your jot!

6. If your post is NSFW, do not ping back. Please leave your link in the comments with a warning.

7. If you’d like to, use the JusJoJan badge so that others can find your post more easily.

#JusJoJan prompt the 29th – “Beach”

JusJoJan prompt the 29th – “Beach”

**********

Right after we got married my now ex-husband joined the Marine Corps. We ended up stationed near the beach and the first home we had was only five minutes away and we went to the beach almost every day when he came home from the base. He was allowed to live off-base since we were married, although they were not happy about it.

I loved crabs and although my ex didn’t he would go and get me a bushel of crabs and take our hibachi down to the beach and cook them for me. Back then we used the salt water from the ocean although I wouldn’t do that now. That was in 1977.

Sometimes we invited our friends along for the feast. One day one of those friends who happened to be a neighbor came over and asked me if I wanted the rest of the bushel of crabs they had bought. They weren’t going to eat them. I said sure and was excited at the prospect. I got out the large pan, filled it to the top with water and had it boiling by the time he got back with them. They were in a paper bag that was falling apart. I looked at it wondering if they were going to escape the bag. However, that was the least of my worries. When I went to pick up the first crab to drop it in the water I used a pair of tongs. I wouldn’t touch them. I dropped it and it started running around the kitchen and I was barefoot. I jumped on top of the dryer and stayed there until my husband came home and stopped laughing long enough to pick it up and put it in the pot. He finished putting the rest in for me, but he was still laughing.

I enjoyed the crabs anyhow, but I was not very happy over what happened and his laughing at me. That isn’t the reason he is the ex now, but it came close, ha ha!

The Friday Reminder for #SoCS & #JusJoJan 2021 Daily Prompt – Jan. 30th

The Friday Reminder for #SoCS & #JusJoJan 2021 Daily Prompt – Jan. 30th

Your prompt for #JusJoJan and Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: “the beginning, the end.” Write about the beginning of something and the end of  something. Bonus points if your first sentence contains “the end” and your last sentence contains “the beginning.” <– Read that again. Have fun!

***************

As I finished my day with the ending of my live stream on youtube, a few hours later I was beginning my next one. All in the same day. My new computer is no longer streaming well. The camera freezes and the microphone sounds robotic. I have no idea what is wrong and it isn’t just me, but it isn’t all of us either. So what is the common denominator here?

Linda G Hill Writes

Welcome to the Daily 2021 Just Jot it January Prompt and the Stream of Consciousness Saturday prompt for SATURDAY, JANUARY 2nd! I want to wish everyone a very happy new year! May 2021 be … uneventful.

For those of you joining SoCS for the first time, it’s a little different than the other prompts in that it’s not always a whole word. Much may be left up to your discretion: this week is no exception. Having said that, if you’re joining in from JusJoJan, don’t want to write stream of consciousness style, no worries. It’s up to you! If you do want to try it, please check out the rules below. It’s fun! Here’s your Saturday prompt:

Your prompt for #JusJoJan and Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: “in the corner.” Write about whatever the image or thought of “in the corner” brings to mind. Have fun!

After you’ve written your Saturday post tomorrow, please link it here at this week’s prompt page and check to make sure it’s here in the comments so others can find it and see your awesome post. Anyone can join in!

2019-2020 SoCS Badge by Shelley!

https://www.quaintrevival.com/

You can also use the Just Jot it January badge! To find the rules for Just Jot it January, click here.

Here are the rules for SoCS:

1. Your post must be stream of consciousness writing, meaning no editing, (typos can be fixed) and minimal planning on what you’re going to write.

2. Your post can be as long or as short as you want it to be. One sentence – one thousand words. Fact, fiction, poetry – it doesn’t matter. Just let the words carry you along until you’re ready to stop.

3. There will be a prompt every week. I will post the prompt here on my blog on Friday, along with a reminder for you to join in. The prompt will be one random thing, but it will not be a subject. For instance, I will not say “Write about dogs”; the prompt will be more like, “Make your first sentence a question,” “Begin with the word ‘The’,” or simply a single word to get your started.

4. Ping back! It’s important, so that I and other people can come and read your post! For example, in your post you can write “This post is part of SoCS:” and then copy and paste the URL found in your address bar at the top of this post into yours.  Your link will show up in my comments for everyone to see. The most recent pingbacks will be found at the top. NOTE: Pingbacks only work from WordPress sites. If you’re self-hosted or are participating from another host, such as Blogger, please leave a link to your post in the comments below.

5. Read at least one other person’s blog who has linked back their post. Even better, read everyone’s! If you’re the first person to link back, you can check back later, or go to the previous week, by following my category, “Stream of Consciousness Saturday,” which you’ll find right below the “Like” button on my post.

6. Copy and paste the rules (if you’d like to) in your post. The more people who join in, the more new bloggers you’ll meet and the bigger your community will get!

7. As a suggestion, tag your post “SoCS” and/or “#SoCS” for more exposure and more views.

#JusJoJan prompt the 28th – “Storm”

#JusJoJan prompt the 28th – “Storm”

**********

The howling and screeching of the wind woke me up and the sounds were terrifying and feeding into my fear of thunder and lightning storms. The house was located in the midst of a lot of trees, many of which were old and very large and partially dead. They were creaking and groaning in the powerful wind. My fears were growing as the intensity of the storm increased.

It got to the point that I had my hands over my ears and my head was under the covers. I was in constant fear that one of those huge trees was going to come down on my head and since I slept just under the roof I would be the first in line if one came down.

Luckily the only thing that came down were some huge branches and not a lot of damage was done. We were lucky.

#JusJoJan prompt the 26th – “Shutter”

#JusJoJan prompt the 26th – “Shutter”

**********

Jack and Suzy used their last little bit of savings and bought a “fixer-upper” of a house. Their friends asked them if they were crazy to spend all their money on a home they couldn’t really live in. Everything needed fixing. Everything that is but the shutters on the windows. They were in perfect condition.

They told everyone that now that they didn’t have to pay rent each month they could put their paychecks towards fixing the house up. They made up a list of what needed to be done and in what order and then started to price things out.

They came to realize that at the rate they were going it would take till they retired to finish up this house and make it livable. They didn’t even have electricity or running water. The electrician said the whole house would need to be rewired in order to be safe. The plumber said the house would need new pipes in order to have running water and a toilet. There was no hear or air conditioning either. It was summertime so the heat wasn’t a problem, but it was hot as heck in there with no air conditioning.

They decided they had no choice but to sell it. Unfortunately it seemed they paid way too much for the property and they couldn’t get back the full amount they paid. They took a major loss on reselling the property, but they had no choice. They re-rented their old apartment and put what little was left back into savings. Jack and Suzy stopped watching those tv shows that showed people buying old houses, fixing them up and making a killing off of them.

The Friday Reminder for #SoCS & #JusJoJan 2021 Daily Prompt – Jan. 23rd

The Friday Reminder for #SoCS & #JusJoJan 2021 Daily Prompt – Jan. 23rd

Your prompt for #JusJoJan and Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: “close eyes and point.” When you’re ready to write your post, open a book, a newspaper, or whatever is handy and close your eyes and point. Whatever word or picture your finger lands on, make that the basis of your SoCS/JusJoJan post. Enjoy!

***************

My finger touched tomorrow. Now I had to do it a second time because the first time I forgot my computer screen is a touch screen and it rolled on me. So I did it the second time and tried not to move my finger.

Now tomorrow is Saturday technically since here it hasn’t turned to Saturday quite yet. So tomorrow is still Saturday. I intend to sleep late if the world will cooperate and let me sleep uninterrupted. The odds are against me though, because the neighbors are noisy, one is always knocking on my door and the phone never stops ringing because I might want to renew the warranty on my 2006 car or maybe give $15 dollars to the police or something equally annoying. I told one guy that I was broke and could he give me $15 instead. Ever so annoying. There are at least fewer on Saturday than during the week.

#JusJoJan prompt the 22nd – “Limp”

#JusJoJan prompt the 22nd – “Limp”

**********

As a child my ankles were super weak and I was always limping due to a sprained ankle. It was really bad when I would go on a girl scout trip and end up spending the whole weekend limping around because I had sprained it and there was no way to get me home since all the parents there were needed and there were no phones like now with all the cell phones and we all camped out in the wilderness so no one could take me home. It wasn’t considered an emergency type of thing whereas they would have to deal with it, they just made me sit the weekend out. Not much fun for me.
